Topik II 60회 읽기 16번




In questions 16~18, you are asked to fill the blank. Texts and vocabulary are often more complex than previous questions, and it is important to understand subordinate clauses structure (은/는/을, etc).

If you are out of time, it is not always necessary to read the entire text, but just concentrate on the sentence with the blank and the one before that. However, it is still recommended to read everything to make sure that your answer suits the topic.



원래 악수는 상대를 안심시키기 위한 행동이었다. Originally, handshaking was an action to reassure the other one.


중세 시대의 기사들은 칼과 같은 무기를 가지고 다니다가 / 적과 싸울 때 꺼내 들었다.

Medieval knights were carrying weapons like knives / and take them out when they fight against the enemy.


하지만 ( ) 때에는 악수를 하면서 손에 무기가 없음을 보여 주었다.

However, when ( ), while shaking hands, they showed that they don’t have a weapon in their hands.

  1. 싸울 생각이 없을 때에는 : When they were not going to fight

  2. 상대의 도움을 받았을 때에는: When they had been helped from the other.

  3. 자신의 잘못을 사과할 때에는 : When they were apologising for their mistake

  4. 무기를 새로 구해야할 때에는 : When they needed to find a new weapon.

The action to assure their safety in such a way, in modern days, became a way of greeting to express welcome and respect.
